0.1 Glossary

Common acronyms and terminology used in IBCOL

  • APAC. Asia-Pacific region.
  • AMER. Americas region.
  • CC. Competitions Committee. A subcommittee of the IBCOL 2024 OC.
  • EMEA. Europe, Middle East, Africa region.
  • EPC. Event Production Committee. A subcommittee of the IBCOL 2024 OC.
  • IBCOL. International Blockchain Olympiad. Annual global student competition for web3 innovation. Founded 2017.
  • IBCOL 2024. The 2024 International Blockchain Olympiad is the 7th International Blockchain Olympiad, to be held in The Netherlands in mid-November 2024.
  • OC. Organising Committee. An organisation convened to organise and deliver a blockchain olympiad at the national, regional, or international scale.
  • Preliminary. An IBCOL preliminary is a non-binding competition event that precedes the main IBCOL Finals competition event. The non-binding nature of the preliminaries provide a forum for contestants to practice as well as organising committees to shortlist or refine team and project qualities. Preliminaries may be held at a national or regional level to amplify value and impact.
  • Triumph. A triumph was a spectacular celebration held in ancient Rome for a commander and this team who had won an important victory. In a spirit of a similar fashion, IBCOL celebrates the champions of the International Blockchain Olympiad in each year in close, exclusive ceremonies, connecting them with the past via former champions and with the future, while providing a space for projects to showcase to more interested parties.

To encourage and equip the next generation of innovative and inquisitive minds to direct their creativity and passion for designing solutions for sustainable development of humanity.

0.3 Target Participants

For current students and recent students [within 3 years of stopping studies] seeking careers as solution architects, product designers, product developers, tech consulting, management consulting, and tech startup founders.

0.4 Participating Countries

Any eligible participant from any country/territory/region (”country”) is welcome to participate in IBCOL 2024 and must submit their materials directly to the IBCOL 2024 Organizing Committee for qualification. If a country has a recognized OC, then prospective participants must go through them for qualification. Any entity may apply to become a recognized OC; please contact us to initiate the process. 0.5 Participation Fees

To help balance the budget for producing this extraordinary event, the IBCOL 2024 Organizing Committee approves the levying of registration and administration fees. The schedule of fees are to be released at a later date. Subsidies may be applied for individuals and organizations, especially for those in need and will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
